Barn conversion to house

The Barn Conversion in Caldas da Rainha reimagines an existing agricultural structure as a contemporary dwelling, balancing legalization requirements with spatial transformation. The original footprint is preserved, with only a minor setback to comply with regulatory limits, while the characteristic double-height volume is maintained as the defining spatial quality of the project. A compact central core concentrates all technical functions, including services and the staircase, allowing the house to develop fluidly around it.

The interior is organised into two clear zones: a communal living space on one side and a private area on the other, ensuring both openness and privacy. Above, a mezzanine level hosts a generous cinema room overlooking the main living space. The result is a precise conversion that preserves the essence of the barn while introducing clarity, comfort, and contemporary domestic life.
