Museum of the Labyrinth of Egypt

The Hawara Museum is a conceptual project developed as part of a broader archaeological preservation masterplan for the Hawara Necropolis at the entrance of the Fayoum Oasis. The design draws inspiration from New Kingdom temple architecture, reducing it to its essential spatial elements: the column, the courtyard, and the hall. Through these archetypal components, the project creates a sequence of monumental spaces designed to host exhibitions and artefacts from ongoing excavations at the site traditionally associated with the “Labyrinth of Egypt”. Integrated into the proposal is the restoration and hydraulic protection of the pyramid of King Amenemhat III, currently affected by rising groundwater and in need of drainage interventions. Rather than reproducing historical forms through imitation, the project seeks to evoke the essence of ancient architecture through atmosphere, scale, and spatial clarity. It aims to re-establish a sense of continuity with history, offering an experience of presence and memory rather than shallow reconstruction.
