Pier house
The Pier House is conceived as a retreat extension of a coastal hotel in Langkawi, Malaysia, where architecture becomes a continuous gesture between jungle, sand, and sea. Defined by a long linear structure that gently bends along the shoreline, the project takes the form of a concrete pier elevated above the landscape, appearing to float through the vegetation and extend into the ocean.
Inspired by traditional Malaysian longhouses, the composition integrates a sequence of timber volumes inserted within a continuous structural frame. Each unit contains a specific program, from living spaces to bedrooms, allowing the house to operate as a modular landscape of privacy and openness. Large openings and rotating shutters dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior, enabling constant dialogue with light, wind, and horizon.
A continuous veranda wraps the structure, offering shade and protection while reinforcing its linear promenade character. Half embedded in the jungle and half projecting over water, the Pier House becomes a quiet architectural threshold between land and sea, nature and construction.
