House in Luxor
The House in Luxor is conceived as a radical domestic reinterpretation of ancient Egyptian architectural logic, set on a secluded island along the Nile in Luxor. The project reverses traditional construction methods by assembling the house from massive stone blocks, placed in compression and secured through gravity, evoking the permanence of monumental temple architecture. Organised as a cross-shaped plan with no internal partitions, the house is defined by spatial openness and structural clarity. Living spaces unfold as a single continuous volume, where flexibility replaces fixed programmatic separation. Large square openings frame the surrounding landscape, while skylights and cross ventilation ensure natural light and airflow throughout.
Materially and conceptually, the house reduces architecture to its essential elements—stone, light, and void—creating a timeless domestic structure that resonates with the landscape and the history of Thebes, where it is situated.
