House in the Fort
Located within the Fort of São Domingos da Baralha on the coast of Sesimbra, this project proposes the inhabitation of a 17th-century defensive structure through a contemporary fisherman’s house. The intervention preserves the existing stone walls while inserting a new monolithic volume that replaces the former water tank, creating a recessed living space that maintains circulation along the historic panoramic terrace. The architecture opens towards the Atlantic through selected squared frames, offering panoramic views of the bay. Built in local stone, the house blends into the rugged landscape, extending the life of the ruin through careful continuity between heritage and inhabitation.
