Taoudenni Memorial
The Taoudenni Memorial is a conceptual project dedicated to the memory of those who worked in the salt mines of Taoudenni, Mali, along the ancient Azalai trade route. Conceived as a monumental landscape intervention, the project proposes the reuse of abandoned salt stones scattered around the excavation pits to construct a place of remembrance and contemplation. The memorial emerges directly from the desert, transforming the traces of human suffering into an architecture of silence and peace. Built entirely from salt blocks, the project reflects on memory as the ultimate responsibility of architecture — giving new meaning to one of the harshest landscapes on Earth.
