Ruin renovation
Perched on a hilltop with a windmill and former winery, the project reactivates a decaying rural structure through a careful act of preservation and renewal. The aim is to extend the life of the existing stone building, respecting the craftsmanship embedded in its original construction. The intervention introduces a new timber roof and subtle structural reinforcement through two central concrete cores, organising service spaces while defining a clear separation between communal and private areas. The main living space unfolds as an open kitchen and lounge, while bedrooms remain more intimate. Lime plaster, hemp block insulation, and cork floors ensure thermal comfort, preserving original openings and maintaining the building’s identity through a light, sustainable transformation.
